The Bible is full of powerful words that if we dig deep enough, the meanings could change your life. One such word is Ebenezer.
Ebenezer is a Hebrew word that means “stone of help.” Ebenezer is found in the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel. The first mention of it is I Samuel 7:12 - Samuel took a stone and set it up . . . and called its name Ebenezer; for he said, “Till now the Lord has helped us. The stone marked the place where the Lord gave the people of God victory over their enemies. Samuel wanted the people to look at the rock and remember, not just for a few days, but for years, for decades, for generations, how God had come to the rescue of his people when they humbled themselves before him.
We apply that word to our lives in two ways. First, our magnificent facility is a rock that points to God’s faithfulness to a people called Ebenezer. We look at it and say, “Lord, you are faithful.” Second, as a congregation that has been gathering for over 160 years, our presence points to a rock who has helped us year after year.
